SARPA YOGA

PHILOSOPHY - ASANA - PRANAYAMA - KRIYA & MYOFASCIAL STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION

ABOUT

A yoga practice is something deeply personal.

The intention you bring to it determines how the resulting inner-discourse unfolds.

Nothing a teacher or text can gift us externally will lead to dissolution; it's a process of practice

and honest self-reflection.

Ben's intention as a teacher is to facilitate a space in which practitioners can begin to explore

themselves and understand they are free to choose how they engage with the vimarsa

(reflective awareness) that shines back at them.

Through his years of practice and hands-on bodywork Ben has come to understand the body as an intricate and fascinating system – its wisdom is not to be discarded in favour of a transcendental state in an imaginary beyond; the body is the wisdom we've been seeking; both the beginning and the end.

THE PRACTICE

"Nothing perceived is independent of perception and perception differs not from the

perceiver, therefore the universe is nothing but the perceiver."

- 'Doctrine of Vibration' by Marc Dyczkowski

We name the practice SARPA YOGA.

SARPA, or serpent, represents the rising of Kundalini, occurring through integration of the

sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems; the fusing of the outer and inner

worlds into one harmonious stream of awareness.

SARPA unites the elements of HATHA YOGA – asana, pranayama, bandhas and kriyas – layering these complex practices to make heat, move energy and create the conditions to perceive the manifestation of vibration.

The first principle of this method is to understand the flow of energy within our bodies by learning to listen and feel into the movement of energy or Prana – Shakti – that works within and around us.

We do this through applying asana, pranayama, bandha and kriya interwoven in repetitive sequences, that will allow us to purify, feel and heal our bodies. This will open up inner space for us to experience the multidimensional aspects of yoga.

Nature. Yoga. Life.

BODYWORK

ANATOMY TRAINS - STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION

In his pursuit of equanimity, Ben finds Myofascial Structural Integration an essential complement to a regular asana practice.

As the myofascial system is comprised of water – the most malleable vehicle of vibration due to its taking on of physical, emotional and mental patterns – applying the techniques of structural integration, which reforms the fascial web, allows us to restructure the body into its natural state of balance.

These sessions work to lengthen, stretch and soften the tissue to restore postural balance, ease of movement, and a feeling of being at home in your body.

Ben is a certified structural integrator from the Anatomy Trains school in Maine, USA, and studied with Thomas Myers, Kelly Chadwick, Lou Benson and Yuron Gal Carmel. He is a member of the International Association of Structural Integrators - IASI.

METHOD

PHILOSOPHY - ASANA - PRANAYMA - KRIYA

& MYOFASCIAL STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION

Yoga Chikitsa, or yoga therapy, is as old as yoga itself.

The yearning for union is as old as mankind. What Freud terms the "oceanic feeling", can, in yoga, find its representation in the desire to understand the interconnection of mind-body-emotions.

The SARPA method teaches us to purify, feel and heal our body.

First, we develop a relationship with prana or shakti.

We do this by learning the application and effects of asana, bandha, pranayama and kriya.

Repetitive practice of these techniques will open space in the body, expand awareness, create strength and flexibility, enhance focus and stamina and from here, we taste the energetic effects of yoga.
